Stacy Niedzwiecki packed up her equipment well before daybreak, and drove an hour to Lake Michigan. She arrived at Grand Haven State Park just in time to photograph to the perigee “Super Moon” setting alongside the pier. “I was truly surprised by the number of fishermen lining the pier,” she stated. “I’m curious to know – do fish bite better under a full moon?”
Nearby perigee moons are about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than lesser moons that occur on the apogee side of the Moon’s orbit. This effect hasn’t been seen in 18 years.
