Moments by Kierkus
Hello, my name is Christopher Kierkus (or “PhotoDocGVSU” to my friends on the photo sharing website Flickr). I’m a nature photographer focused on capturing the unique scenic beauty of the State of Michigan. I’ve been pursing the art of digital photograph for about ten years. A number of my photographs have been used in various travel and business publications, and I’m proud to say that one of my images recently won the “Pure Michigan” seasonal photo contest (for the Spring of 2010)! If you’d like to see a more extensive collection of my work, please click over to my Flickr site:

While I enjoy capturing many different kinds of subjects (wildlife, historical buildings, sunsets, landscapes etc.) my primary “photo project” is trying to photograph all 100-some-odd lighthouses dotting the coast of our beautiful State. My wife and I have traveled to about 60 of them so far. I love lighthouses regardless of where they’re located … there’s something about the solitude, history and water front locations that make them very special. I also run a lighthouse photo group on Flickr, which you can check out here:

When I’m not taking pictures, I work as a Professor of Criminal Justice at Grand Valley State University. I teach classes about criminology, juvenile delinquency, public policy, research and statistics. I’m married, and live in Kentwood, Michigan with my wife, Marie, and my dachshund / terrier, Sandy (the cute little dog sharing the frame in my profile picture!)
