Wayne Pope of Okemos, MI

Wayne R. Pope is a freelance outdoor writer/nature photographer from Okemos, MI. He is also an adjunct photography instructor at Lansing Community College.

Wayne graduated from Michigan State University in 1972 with a bachelors degree in Biological Sciences.Since nature is his favorite subject, his educational background has helped him to become a more successful outdoor writer/nature photographer.

Wayne worked as a photojournalist with The State News, MSU for three years and learned the newspaper writing trade. After that, he became a free-lance writer/photographer. Wayne has published articles and photo essays in Michigan-Out-Of-Doors, Michigan Living, Michigan Natural Resources, Traverse and Sports Afield magazines. His photos have been published in two coffee table books. He have been a frequent contributor to The Jack Pine Warbler, a bimonthly birding magazine published by the Michigan Audubon Society. Wayne was also a Glen Arbor Art Association Artist-in-Residence in the Summer of 2008.

Wayne began helping co-workers learn their film-based cameras at General Motors in 1984. People would ask him questions and hewould help them find answers, often in their camera manuals. They gave Wayne the nickname “Camera Man.”  He became a Lansing Community College photography instructor in 2001. Since then, Wayne have taught hundreds of students how to master their camera and take better photos.
