“This year I have given myself an assignment to photograph from unusual angles and compositions. This photo of a Marsh Marigold (Caltha palustris) is my first attempt at accomplishing my goal.” ~ John Dykstra

“Even before the days of digital photography and computers, film shooters had a method of double exposing to give this soft effect with a glow. I think the Orton Effect adds an artistic flair to the image which I like a lot.” ~ Tom Haxby
“Returning home from my sons’ Little League practice, I noticed a large puddle in a cornfield within walking distance of my home. I realized in about half an hour, the sunset would be lined up perfect in the tree line reflection. I grabbed my camera and returned just in time for the show!” ~ Stacy Niedzwiecki

“The foot of Ferry Street has long been one of my favorite vantage points to look over Ludington harbor. Winter sunrises provide some of the best views. The carferry Badger is at left and the carferry City of Midland (since converted to a barge) at right.” ~ Todd Reed

“This was actually taken on a cold and blustery day. I has hoping for a colorful sunset, but the clouds would not yield.” ~ Tom Haxby
“I found myself at daybreak at Eilers Road End Beach watching the light come up over Lake Michigan. The clouds were so interesting and made patterns of light and shadow in the calm waters. It was just so… peaceful.” ~ Stacy Niedzwiecki
“I ventured out onto the west breakwater of Manistique, Michigan to get a closer view of the lighthouse. The lighthouse was reflected in puddles of water left by a passing storm.” ~ Steven Huyser-Honig

Stacy Niedzwiecki packed up her equipment well before daybreak, and drove an hour to Lake Michigan. She arrived at Grand Haven State Park just in time to photograph to the perigee “Super Moon” setting alongside the pier. “I was truly surprised by the number of fishermen lining the pier,” she stated. “I’m curious to know – do fish bite better under a full moon?”
Nearby perigee moons are about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than lesser moons that occur on the apogee side of the Moon’s orbit. This effect hasn’t been seen in 18 years.

Traveling by horse and buggy is a way of life for the Amish families who have settled in Riverton and the surrounding areas. On the verge of spring, I was photographing a Riverton farm near the sunset when a horse and buggy came down Hawley Road at a fast pace. Even though the Amish choose a simpler way of life, they always seem to be on the move, undaunted by hard work, or lack of life’s luxuries. I appreciate that they always seem to have time to give a cheerful wave as they pass by.

One must take a boat ride to catch this point of view of the Pictured Rocks in the Upper Peninsula. Over millions of years water dripping down the rock cliffs along the Lake Superior shoreline have left mineral deposits. The beauty of the Pictured Rocks is quite evident in this image captured by Tom Haxby.
“On my way back from Newaygo to my home in Rockford – I decided to have lunch in the small town of Grant, Michigan in southern Newaygo County at a former train depot which now serves up tasty sandwiches and baked goods. As I left the parking lot, I spotted this interesting grain elevator directly behind the depot on the others side of the train tracks. Despite the building looking rather abandoned, I have found listings that appear it is still a working, viable business. Does anyone know?” ~ Stacy Niedzwiecki
