“I pre-visualized how the Charlevoix Lighthouse might look three hours and 150 miles before I got there. The fresh coat of ice on the Charlevoix pier from yesterday’s north wind and waves looks even better than I envisioned.” – photographer Todd Reed.

Photographer Robert deJonge followed the winter shoreline at Petoskey State Park in Northern Michigan.

Photographer Robert deJonge reflects on his image, “Looking at Little Traverse Bay this past weekend I marvel at the incredible energy in the form of wind and water that snapped these thick slabs of ice and then stacked them up on the end of the bay. Some slabs were at least eight inches thick and must have weighed thousands of pounds.”

Brad Reed states, “I love this field. It is near the corner of Fountain and Stiles road. I was facing southeast when I took this photograph. The trees in this scene have intrigued me for years, but I had never found the right light or atmosphere for a great photo, until this morning.

My dad and I try to dress for success when we are photographing in the winter. On this day I had all my gear except my fleece hood. Right before I made this photograph, a large clump of snow fell on my head and went down my back. It reminded me of the snowball fights I had with my brothers when I was a kid.
